National Trails Day at Big Bear Discovery CenterWork in the forest and be rewarded with lunch, dinner, T-shirt and free Scenic Skychair ticket by volunteering on National Trails Day Saturday, June 4.

Join Southern California Mountains Foundation, Bear Valley Trails Foundation and Snow Summit for trail maintenance within the South Shore trail network. The 23 miles of newly-designated trails in the multiuse system need to be brought up to Forest Service standards and that’s where you come in. All ages are welcome for trail work that will focus on the eastern end of the system (fall-line).

Check in starts at 12:30 p.m. at Snow Summit with work slated from 1-5 p.m. All tools and instruction are provided and no experience is necessary. Wear long pants, closed toe shoes and bring reusable water bottle and gloves if you have them.

All volunteers receive T-shirt and lunch provided by co-sponsor REI. In addition workers receive a Skychair ticket at Snow Summit good the same day or later date in 2016 courtesy of Mammoth Mountain Resorts. Dinner and after party follows at Snow Summit from 5-7 p.m. The event is limited to 100 volunteers and preregistration is required.
