Part music festival, part pre-winter party, HDHR on September 23-24 is sure to get skiers and snowboarders psyched for the upcoming season. Expanded vendor village and exclusive premieres of movies from TransWorld Snowboarding and Snowboarder Magazine are also on tap in addition to two full days of concerts featuring top bands.
HDHR begins Friday at 4 p.m. with concert lineup that includes She Wants Revenge, Dilated Peoples and Atlas Genius. The former is a musical duo that has sold over 300,000 albums in the U.S. while Dilated Peoples is a hip hop band from Los Angeles. Atlas Genius meanwhile is an alternative rock group from Australia whose 2013 debut album When It Was Now peaked at #34 on the Billboard Top 200 chart spearheaded by singles “Trojans” and “If So,” both of which cracked the Top 10. TransWorld’s latest film Insight will also be shown.
Saturday, Sept. 24 sees snowboarding competition on summer snow on a specially-designed course with air, rails and obstacles in The Scene. First heat runs from 1-2 p.m. before the final head begins at 3 as 50 top invited snowboarders show their stuff, competing for a huge $15,000 purse. Enjoy the party on the famous 13,000 sq. ft. deck at Beach and Tiki Bars or Rail View BBQ and Aloha Chill and Grill.
Making it all possible is over 140 tons of summer snow made by Union Ice Co., which feeds 300 lb. blocks of ice into chipping machines that turn it into beautiful snow, with nothing added—100% the real deal. Usually the company makes snow for Hollywood film and commercial makers as special effects, but it has also provided white stuff for the X Games and the snow is competition-quality.
After the competition it’s time to rock with DJ Jayceeoh and Snowboarder’s film premiere. Taking the stage is rapper Wale best known for “Pretty Girls.” Headlining is Eagles of Death Metal which despite the humorous name is actually known for its sound that’s part bluegrass slide guitar with stripper drum beats and vocals. The band’s had many hits songs including “I Love You All The time,” “I Only Want You” and “I Want You So Hard” but a year ago Eagles of Death Metal became infamous as the band on stage during the Paris attacks.
Single day tickets are $30 (12 and under $15) or enjoy all of HDHR with two-day tickets $40. For $90 there’s VIP Experience tickets that include access to the front and back stage area as well as the Red Bull Star Tent adjacent to the contest area. Season pass holders get 20% discount at the ticket windows.
