Teams Fish for Aaron’s Big Bear Lake Bass Championship Series Title

Big Bear Charter Fishing Bass Championship SeriesAfter six qualifying events it comes down to the two-day Tournament of Champions on September 17-18 to see who will be crowned 2016 Big Bear Angler of the Year.

Five two-person teams qualified for the tournament after fishing on Big Bear and also Silverwood Lakes each month since spring. To qualify teams have to fish a minimum of three of the six derbies and finish in the top 40% of the points race.

Past champions Steve Almquist and Jim Effron qualified to defend their crowns. Other teams participating in the Tournament of Champions include Aaron Armstrong and professional bass angler Carol Martens, along with Metroka and Marceli Smagacz, Jason Laza and Marco Munguia,  and Matthew Keller and Gleb Korolov.

While fishing on the lake was tough during summer, Armstrong and Martens cleaned up in the August event, reeling in a combined bass catch of 13 lbs 4.6 oz. That was well ahead of second place finishers Metroka and Marceli at 7 lbs. 3 oz. and Keller and Korolov’s 7 lbs. 4 oz. Laza and Munguia hooked Big Fish honors with a nice four pound-plus largemouth bass.

All event entry fees are returned in championship prize money except for 10% which goes to bass plants. Registration and weigh-in  is at Boathouse Tavern. For information call Big Bear Cool Cabins at (800) 550-8779 or Big Bear Charter Fishing at (800) 475-3166.
